Jets improve draft position with trade

Hempstead, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Jets agreed in principle with the Chicago Bears on a major trade Friday. The Jets receive the fourth overall selection in the 2003 NFL Draft from Chicago for the 13th pick overall, which was obtained from Washington for Laveranues Coles, the 22nd overall selection, and a conditional draft pick.

"There are four players on our draft board who we really like and have targeted. We’re excited about acquiring one of the players," New York Jets General Manager Terry Bradway was quoted as saying on the Jets' website. "The acquisition of the fourth pick in the draft ensures us that we will acquire one of the players that we, as an organization, covet."

The Jets will have a pick in the top five for the first time since 1996, when they chose receiver Keyshawn Johnson out of Southern California.

The NFL Draft starts Saturday, April 26 at noon. The Cincinnati Bengals with the first overall pick have already inked Southern California quarterback Carson Palmer. The Detroit Lions are scheduled to pick second, while the Houston Texans are in possession of the third overall pick.
