Cleveland DE Brown might miss rest of season

Berea, OH (Sports Network) - Cleveland defensive end Courtney Brown is scheduled to have knee surgery Thursday and might be out for the remainder of the season.

According to Browns head coach Butch Davis, the former Penn State star appears to have cartilage damage in his left knee and will undergo surgery to determine the extent of the damage.

Brown bruised his knee during Cleveland's 24-15 win over New Orleans on November 24.

Since the injury, Brown, in his third NFL campaign, competed in the Browns' 13-6 loss to Carolina on November 24, but missed the past two games.

"Courtney is frustrated," head coach Butch Davis said. "He’s frustrated by the injury and frustrated because he wants to be there to help his teammates."

The first overall pick of the 2000 draft will watch his team play Baltimore on Sunday in a must-win game to remain in the playoff race.
