Patriots place Otis Smith on IR

Foxboro, MA (Sports Network) - The New England Patriots placed defensive back Otis Smith on the injured reserve Thursday meaning he will miss the remainder of the season.

Smith was injured in the Patriots Monday night 24-7 loss to Tennessee. Terrell Buckley, who has also played for Miami and Green Bay, is a likely candidate to replace Smith. He has played in 14 games this season with New England and has four interceptions.

Smith has played in 48 of the last 49 possible games over three seasons. For his career, Smith has posted 451 tackles and 28 interceptions in 162 career games. He has returned seven of those interceptions for touchdowns.
