Anaheim Angels Team Report - April 15th

(Sports Network) - The Anaheim Angels opened up a four-game set against the Texas Rangers on Monday in losing fashion, as they were blanked 4-0.

Kevin Appier (1-2) absorbed the loss, allowing four runs -- three earned -- and five hits in 6 1/3 innings for the Angels, who had won five straight. Appier fell to 7-16 lifetime in 29 starts against the Rangers.

Garret Anderson went 0-for-4 in the contest and struck out once, but is still on the hottest hitters in the league this year with a batting average of .429.

Anaheim, coming off a three-game sweep of Oakland, finished with just six hits and was shut out for the second time this season.

Anaheim didn't get a base runner to second until the sixth inning and was held without an extra base hit for the entire game.

The Angels will send Jarrod Washburn to the mound for the second tilt of this four-game set from Arlington. He is making his third start of the season and pitched eight shutout innings in his most recent outing. The Angels' ace allowed just five hits and walked only one batter en route to his first victory of the season.

Washburn (1-1) has had major success in his career against the Rangers, posting a record of 5-1 and an ERA of just 2.94. In 52 innings of work against Texas he has posted 41 strikeouts and just 14 walks.
