Devil Rays place Lee on DL

Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - The Tampa Bay Devil Rays have placed first baseman Travis Lee on the 15-day disabled list because of a right oblique strain. The move is retroactive to Monday, April 14.

Lee hasn't played since April 13 when he left a game against the New York Yankees because of the problem.

In his first season with Tampa Bay, Lee is hitting .347 with one homer and five runs batted in over 12 games. He spent the past 2 1/2 years with Philadelphia after playing his first 2 1/2 big league seasons with Arizona.

The Devil Rays filled the vacant roster spot by selecting outfielder George Lombard from Triple-A Durham. Lombard, claimed off waivers from Detroit in late March, was hitting .327 with two homers and 14 RBI in 14 games for the Bulls.

Tampa Bay also designated pitcher Delvin James for assignment to clear room on the 40-man roster for Lombard. James had no record with an 8.38 earned run average in six relief appearances at Durham.
