Devil Rays lose Rolls for up to four weeks

St. Petersburg, FL (Sports Network) - Tampa Bay Devil Rays rightfielder Damian Rolls suffered a nondisplaced fracture of his right thumb in Tuesday's victory over Toronto.

Rolls, who is expected to be sidelined for three-to-four weeks, was injured when he dove for a ball hit by Josh Phelps to right field in the second inning. Rolls landed on his right hand and his thumb bent sideways and dislocated at the last knuckle.

He stayed on the field for the rest of the frame but, after the game, the thumb was placed in a splint.

It was the same thumb Rolls hurt while sliding while in the minors last season. He had surgery and missed 10 weeks.

In 15 games this season , Rolls is hitting .219 with two RBI.

Rolls was originally the Dodgers' first round selection in the 1996 June free agent draft.
