Tampa Bay Devil Rays Team Report - April 23

(Sports Network) - The Tampa Bay Devil Rays can even their home record at 6-6 tonight with a win over the Toronto Blue Jays in the second of a three-game set at Tropicana Field.

Toby Hall broke a seventh-inning tie with an RBI single to lead Tampa Bay to a 4-3 victory over Toronto in the opener of the set on Tuesday. Hall finished 2- for-3 and Al Martin also collected two hits for the Devil Rays, who snapped a two-game losing streak.

Joe Kennedy (1-1) picked up the win after he allowed three runs on five hits in eight innings. He also struck out five batters and walked two in the game. Lance Carter worked a scoreless ninth for his second save of the year.

However, all the news was not positive on the Tampa front, as rightfielder Damian Rolls fractured his thumb and will be out for three-to-four weeks. He was injured when he attempted to make a diving catch on Josh Phelps' ground rule double in the second inning.

Victor Zambrano gets the call tonight for the Devil Rays, who will try to get back-to-back wins from their starters for the first time this season. Zambrano, 0-2 with a 7.77 ERA, is coming of a horrendous outing in his last appearance, as he allowed eight runs on six hits and walked five over six innings in a loss to Baltimore on Friday.

The Venezuelan righthander, who has given up at least five earned runs in three of his four starts this year, has not recorded a decision in five appearances against the Blue Jays and owns a 6.75 ERA against them.

Tampa has yielded 130 runs so far this season, tying it with Texas for the most in the American League.
