National League Game Summary - San Francisco at Pittsburgh

(Thursday, April 24th)

Final Score: San Francisco 3, Pittsburgh 1

Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Damian Moss threw seven-plus shutout innings to lead San Francisco to a 3-1 victory over Pittsburgh in the rubber match of their three-game set at PNC Park.

Moss (4-0) surrendered just five hits, while striking out three and walking three batters. Tim Worrell worked the ninth for his seventh save of the year.

Barry Bonds returned after missing the last two games with a stiff neck and had two hits, while driving in a run. Jose Cruz and Andres Galarraga also both collected a pair of hits with an RBI for the Giants, who have won two straight games.

Kris Benson (2-3) absorbed the loss after yielding three runs on nine hits over seven innings. Pinch-hitter Matt Stairs drove in the lone run for Pittsburgh, which has dropped eight of its last 11 contests.

San Francisco scored all three of its runs in the third inning as the Giants had four hits in the frame.

Ray Durham started the rally with a one-out walk and later moved over to second on Edgardo Alfonzo's single. San Francisco then banged out three straight RBI hits as Bonds started the scoring with a single to right that brought home Durham. Cruz then followed with a base hit, which drove home Alfonzo for the second run of the inning. Galarraga closed out the frame with a single to left bringing in Bonds for a 3-0 cushion.

Moss ran into a jam in the bottom of the eighth. He allowed a leadoff single to Abraham Nunez and then surrendered a base hit up the middle to Jack Wilson. After putting the first two runners on, Moss was relieved by Felix Rodriguez, who retired the next three batters to get out of the inning unharmed.

Pittsburgh again threatened in the ninth, but this time it was able to crack the scoreboard. Craig Wilson led off with an infield single and then advanced to second when Kenny Lofton was thrown out after bunting. After striking out Rob Mackowiak, Worrell then yielded a two-out double to Stairs, which scored Wilson for the 3-1 margin. He then got Nunez to ground out and end the game.
