Seattle Mariners Team Report - April 24

(Sports Network) - Gil Meche pitched 7 2/3 scoreless innings to lead the Seattle Mariners past the Cleveland Indians, 4-0, in the second of a three- game series at Safeco Field yesterday.

Mark McLemore contributed a two-run double and John Olerud clubbed a solo home run for the Mariners, who have won three straight and nine of their last 11 games. Edgar Martinez had a sacrifice fly in the win.

Meche (2-1) earned his first career win against Cleveland, allowing just five hits with eight strikeouts and two walks.

Meche pitched the longest outing of his career and his eight strikeouts tied a career high.

Southpaw Jamie Moyer gets the call for the Mariners today, as he tries to record his third victory of the season. In his most recent outing, Moyer pitched seven shutout innings and struck out four batters, as he won his second game of the year.

Moyer (2-1) will be making his 22nd start of his career against the Indians and has a record 6-7 against them. He has also posted an ERA of 4.31 when facing Cleveland, while striking out 75 batters in 131 2/3 innings of action.

Seattle placed closer Kazuhiro Sasaki on the 15-day disabled list with a strained lower back before yesterday's contest.
