(Sports Network) - A pair of teams riding two-game winning streaks face off
this evening, when the Cincinnati Reds host the San Diego Padres for the first
of a three-game set at Great American Ball Park.

Cincinnati took the final two of its three-game set with the Los Angeles
Dodgers, including a 3-2 win in 11 innings on Thursday. Reggie Taylor's RBI
single in the bottom of the 11th lifted the Reds to the victory.

Felipe Lopez went 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored the game-winning run for the
Reds, who have won two straight games. Jason LaRue finished with two hits and
a run scored, while Felix Heredia (1-0) gave up a hit in an inning of relief
for the win.

Ryan Dempster started the first 6 2/3 innings and allowed just one run and
five hits for Cincinnati. The Reds have won consecutive games for only the
second time this season.

The Reds will look to recently called up Jeff Austin to take the mound this
evening. Austin will be making his first major league start after appearing in
31 games over the past two years with the Kansas City Royals in relief. The
26-year-old has never posted a major league decision, while amassing a 5.23
ERA.

Austin, the Royals' first-round draft pick in 1998, made three starts at
Triple-A Louisville, winning all of them while posting a 2.50 ERA. The
righthander was acquired during spring training from the Royals. Austin will
be facing the Padres for the first time in his career.

San Diego will answer with 21-year-old righthander Jake Peavy this evening.
Peavy suffered his first loss of the year last time on the hill, giving up six
hits and six runs over six frames against Colorado. The hurler permitted four
walks and struck out two in the losing effort.

Peavy will be taking on the Reds for the first time in his career.

The Padres registered victories in the final two of their three-game series
against the Chicago Cubs, including a 2-1 win on Thursday. Oliver Perez
pitched 6 1/3 shutout innings to lead the Padres to the victory. Perez (1-2)
captured his first win in five starts this season. The 21-year-old scattered
six hits, struck out six and walked two.

Luther Hackman and Mike Matthews both pitched one-third of an inning, while
Jaret Wright hurled two innings of one-run ball for his second save.

Keith Lockhart had an RBI double and Ryan Klesko contributed a run-scoring
single for San Diego, which has won two straight after a six-game skid. Ramon
Vazquez went 5-for-12 during the series.

This is the first meeting of the season between the teams. Cincinnati went 5-1
versus San Diego last year, winning the final five meetings.

The Reds are just 5-7 at home this season, while the Padres are 4-8 on the
road.
