American League Game Summary - Detroit at Seattle
(Friday, April 25th)
Final Score: Seattle 6, Detroit 0
Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Bret Boone drove in three runs and Joel
Pineiro threw 5 1/3 scoreless innings as the Seattle Mariners blanked the
Detroit Tigers, 6-0, in the opener of a three-game series at Safeco Field.
Randy Winn went 3-for-4 and came within a home run of a cycle for the
Mariners, who have won five straight and 11 of 13.
Omar Infante had two of Detroit's four hits as the Tigers continued the
franchise's worst-ever start, falling to 2-19.
Pineiro (2-1) struck out six and allowed four hits over 5 1/3 innings to earn
the victory. He walked six batters in the game, but the anemic Detroit offense
failed to capitalize.
Detroit, which has scored a major league-low 43 runs this season, failed to
get a runner across home plate despite loading the bases in the first, second
and sixth innings. The Tigers stranded 11 baserunners in the contest.
Seattle took a 2-0 lead off Detroit starter Mike Maroth on RBI singles by John
Olerud and Carlos Guillen in the bottom of the first inning.
The Mariners scored four times in the second to essentially put the game away
against the hapless Tigers. Willie Bloomquist led off the inning with a double
to right, went to third on a base hit by Dan Wilson and scored on an Ichiro
Suzuki single to make it a 3-0 contest.
Winn followed with a base hit that loaded the bases for Boone, who cleared the
bases with a double that put Seattle up 6-0.
Seattle relievers Julio Mateo and Rafael Soriano did not allow a hit while
combining for 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.
Maroth (0-6) lost his sixth straight start, surrendering six runs on eight
hits while striking out two and walking one in just two innings of work. He
joined Dave Stewart as the only pitchers in major league history to lose six
games in the month of April. Stewart lost six games in April 1984 as a member
of the Texas Rangers.

Seattle...Detroit has scored two less runs this season (43) than the New York
