Oakland's Dye placed on DL

Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - Oakland Athletics outfielder Jermaine Dye was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with torn cartilage in his right knee.

Dye was hurt in Thursday's game against the Detroit Tigers when he fell while fielding a double by Dean Palmer in the fifth inning. After trainer Larry Davis was called onto the field, Dye walked off under his own power.

The 29-year-old Dye has struggled so far this season. In 21 games, he is batting just .189 with one homer and six RBI.

Playing in his eighth season, Dye has 135 homers and 517 RBI over his career. He has also spent time with Atlanta and Kansas City.

The Athletics filled the roster spot by recalling outfielder Jason Grabowski from Triple-A Sacramento.
