Erstad placed on disabled list

Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Anaheim Angels outfielder Darin Erstad was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with tendinitis in his lower right hamstring tendon. The move is retroactive to April 20.

The 27-year-old underwent an MRI on his right hamstring Monday and the procedure showed no signs of a tear in his tendon.

Erstad is hitting .333 with two homers and eight runs batted in this season. It is only the third time in his career that he is on the DL.

The eight-year veteran, who underwent off-season surgery on his right hand, hit .283 with 10 home runs and 99 runs scored last season for the World Series champions.

Meanwhile, Anaheim selected the contract of outfielder Gary Johnson from Salt Lake of the Pacific Coast League.
