Seattle Mariners Team Report - April 28

(Sports Network) - Freddy Garcia threw seven strong innings to lead Seattle to a 4-3 win over Detroit in the rubber match of a three-game set at Safeco Field.

Garcia (2-3) allowed just three runs on four hits, while striking out six batters and walking only one. The Venezuelan hurler won for the first time in his last four starts.

Ichiro Suzuki, Bret Boone and Carlos Guillen all drove in runs for Seattle, which has won six of its last seven contests.

Seattle has now gone 6-1 in one-run contests this season and won yesterday's contest despite posting just five hits.

The Mariners improved to 8-0 in day games this year and have now won 12 of their last 15 overall. Seattle concluded a six-game homestand at 5-1 and has the day off today.

Gil Meche gets the call for the Mariners on Tuesday night, as he tries to record his third victory of the season against the New York Yankees. In his most recent outing, Meche pitched 7 2/3 shutout innings and struck out eight batters, as he won his second game of the year.

Meche (2-1) will be making the third start of his career against the Yankees and has a record 0-1 against them. He has also posted an ERA of 8.22 when facing New York, while walking seven batters in just 7 2/3 innings of action.
