Oakland Athletics Team Report - April 30

(Sports Network) - Eric Byrnes went 3-for-3 and scored two runs to help the Oakland Athletics to a 3-2 win over the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field.

Chris Singleton poked two hits, scored a run and drove in two for Oakland, which won its fifth straight game and took the opening contest of this three- game set.

Reigning Cy Young winner Barry Zito (4-2) picked up the win for Oakland. He lasted seven frames and gave up just two runs -- one earned -- on four hits to go along with three strikeouts and three walks.

Keith Foulke, Chicago's closer last year, struck out a batter in a 1-2-3 ninth to pick up his seventh save for Oakland.

The A's finished with just six hits, as the two through seven hitters combined to go 0-for-22. Oakland committed the only error of the contest.

Lefty throwing Mark Mulder will take the mound for the A's today as he tries to record his fourth victory of the season. He recorded his third victory of the season last time on the mound, pitching a complete game shutout and striking out five.

Mulder (3-1) will be making just his fourth career start against the White Sox today. He has posted a record of 2-0 against them and has an ERA of 3.48, while striking out 11 batters in 20 2/3 innings of work.
